Some users have experienced spontaneous crashes related to the video messaging feature. This scenario is very difficult to reproduce and seems only to happen in very specific scenarios.
The symptoms of this issue are as follows: Users are able to access the Web Client Interface, but when they attempt to create a new message, reply to a message or forward a message, the web browser experiences a fatal error and closes. This error occurs in both Firefox and Internet Explorer, making it unlikely that the issue is with a specific browser.
The problem has been narrowed down to an issue with capturing a video stream using the Flash video messaging module. The same type of issue is experienced on affected machines by accessing an external website using a similar Flash video module (for example, Youtube.com), right-clicking on the video field, selecting “Settings” and then navigating to the Webcam settings. On unaffected computers, this opens a video capture configuration menu. On affected computers, the fatal error occurs and closes the browser window.
The issue is likely caused by an incompatibility between specific webcams and Adobe Flash, though research into the matter is not yet conclusive.
A solution to this problem is currently under investigation.
