Invalid SMTP e-mail address error

An SMTP e-mail address is simply an e-mail address in the following format:

  • name @ domain

This includes, for example, derek@sys-national.com.

If you are receiving an error message regarding an invalid SMTP e-mail address, it is because the contact that you are addressing your email2 message to is not recognized as being in this format. The two most common reasons for this are that the contact is either a Microsoft Exchange contact or a distribution list.

If the contact is a Microsoft Exchange contact, you must obtain his or her true e-mail address (in the SMTP format, shown above).

If the contact is a distribution list, you must expand the list so that it is replaced by the actual e-mail addresses. Instructions for doing so can be found here.
