The email2 Toolbar stores some data (encrypted) locally. To find out more about this, visit this page.
If you are receiving an error message claiming that your local cache is corrupt, it means that previously stored access data and metadata have somehow become invalidated. This could happen for a number of reasons.
- If a user attempts to manually edit the local cache, it will be reported as invalid.
- If an external application or user (malware, a hacker, a virus) attempts to modify the local cache in any way, it will be reported as invalid.
- If the email2 Toolbar or Outlook is involved in a crash, it is possible that some of the local cache data will be invalidated.
- If the local cache cannot be found (it was deleted or moved), then it will be reported as invalid.
If your local cache has been invalidated, don't worry - it's easy to fix. If you select a message that gives you the error message, and then use the email2 Toolbar to retrieve the message again, the local cache will be recreated. We do not force auto-retrieval so that you can make a case-by-case decision about which messages you'd like to re-retrieve.
